Tour and Volunteer Coordinator


The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia, is seeking a hardworking and outgoing individual for the position of Tour and Volunteer Coordinator. The Southern Museum, located 22 miles north of downtown Atlanta, is part of the prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations Program. The Museum features exhibitions that examine the importance of railroads in the region during and after the Civil War, a research library, and an 8,000 square foot children's education center. The Tour and Volunteer Coordinator oversees group tours, field trips, outreach programs, and volunteers for the Museum. The position reports to the Director of Operations and primarily works a Tuesday through Saturday schedule.

Major responsibilities include organizing, promoting, and conducting tours, including field trips that meet Georgia state curriculum standards, along with outreach programs that take place off-site and virtually. The position assists with the implementation of the museum's educational programming, such as Mommy & Me (an early childhood program for children ages three to five years) and the Homeschool Workshop (recommended for students ages five to twelve). Another key assignment is the recruitment and oversight of volunteer staff and interns. The Tour and Volunteer Coordinator also participate in a wide range of museum activities and events, including customer service functions such as assisting in the ticket booth and gift shop.

The ideal candidate possesses a bachelor's degree in education, history, or related field, along with paid, full-time experience conducting tours and educational programming. Experience working in a museum setting is a plus. This is a full-time, hourly city government position with benefits. The starting salary range begins at $36,005. Candidates may be eligible for partial relocation expenses.
