Assistant Curator of Education

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia is seeking eligible candidates for the assistant curator of education position. The museum is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates with a background in art and a demonstrated interest in education. This is a professional position working with the associate curator of education and curator of education in the development and implementation of school and teacher programs for general and special needs audiences in Athens and statewide. This position will also write interpretive educational materials for use by K-12 educators, give tours, and assist the education department with managing programs and events. This position will also be responsible for training, supervising, evaluating and managing the community and student docent programs and the summer Art Adventures program. Some evening, especially Thursday nights, and weekend hours may be required.

Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills. Experience with public speaking and familiarity with strategies for communicating ideas and information. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations and act with grace under pressure. Self-directed with the ability to take initiative and anticipate actions needed. Excellent organizational, event and project management skills. Proven ability to set goals and meet deadlines; implement programs as well as to see the big picture. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize short-term and long-term projects. Prefers strong computer skills and fluency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in art education, art history, or museum education, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Physical Demands: May be required to lift containers of supplies weighing between 50-75 pounds. May spend time sitting or squatting on the floor with children. Moving tables and chairs a regular activity.


Full Time Benefits Eligible position; Salary commensurate with experience.
