Thomas County Historical Society

Part Time Tour Guide

The Thomas County Historical Society seeks a qualified part time candidate to conduct tours and assist in programming at the Lapham-Patterson House, located in the Dawson Street Historic District in Thomasville, Georgia. The Lapham-Patterson House is a whimsical 1885 Victorian that has been operated for several decades as a historic house museum.

This opportunity affords the candidate extensive hands-on experience assisting in the evolving interpretation of the historic house as well as the development, facilitation, and evaluation of a variety of public programs for children, families, and adults. Duties include conducting guided tours of the Lapham-Patterson House on Fridays from 1 pm to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm. There may also be occasion to assist the Executive Director and Museum Educator in planning and conducting programs for families at the Lapham-Patterson House and the Thomas County Museum of History.

The ideal candidate should be should be comfortable speaking in public on a variety of topics. They will need to be flexible, mature, reliable, dedicated, creative, organized, and committed to being a team player as the Lapham-Patterson House develops new and engaging programming for the Thomasville community.

Requirements: Experience in giving tours, education, or interpretation and working with volunteers and/or children is preferred and interest in museum education, curation, or management is helpful.
