Museum Marketing Specialist

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is currently seeking an energetic and creative applicant for the position of Museum Marketing Specialist. As a prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations member, the Southern Museum is the key tourist and cultural attraction in downtown Kennesaw, Georgia, displaying the world-famous General locomotive. The Museum Marketing Specialist assists in the effective implementation of advertising and promotional strategies, social media, and audience expansion. Employee is encouraged to use both traditional and digital platforms in a meaningful way to promote the museum's values as an inclusive, hospitable, and major cultural attraction in the Atlanta-Metro area. This is a unique opportunity for the right individual to apply multiple marketing skills across various key targets and outlets.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Museum Marketing Specialist is responsible for marketing and public relation endeavors including, but not limited to, the following: securing and monitoring of advertising for museum events and various programs, design and creation of marketing materials, cultivating influence with media outlets and tourism agencies, and handling of press inquiries. The Museum Marketing Specialist assists in envisioning and the implementation of strategic marketing campaigns in order to produce positive and quantifiable results in community relations and museum attendance. Incumbent will have the chance to establish and incorporate their skills within a dynamic and active team.

Examples of Work:

The Museum Marketing Specialist will normally work Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Employee is expected to work on site; this is not a telecommute position. A flexible schedule is occasionally required to meet the needs of special events, holidays, or other marketing initiatives. Schedule is subject to change based on city/museum needs.

A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field along with a minimum of relevant professional experience is required. Excellent communication and networking skills, basic competency in graphic design and website maintenance (WordPress, basic HTML coding, InDesign, Photoshop) is necessary.

This is a salaried city government position with a starting salary range of $42,797–$49,000 and includes excellent benefits. Candidates may be eligible for partial relocation expenses.
