Early Childhood Educator


The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia, is seeking an energetic and experienced individual for the position of Early Childhood Educator. The Southern Museum, located 22 miles north of downtown Atlanta, is part of the prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations Program. The Museum features exhibitions that examine the importance of railroads in the region during and after the Civil War, a research library, and an 8,000 square foot children's education center. The Early Childhood Educator plays a key role in developing and coordinating education initiatives, programs, tours, and field trips. The position reports to the Director of Operations and primarily works a Tuesday through Saturday schedule.

Major responsibilities include creating, promoting, and conducting educational and public programs to interpret museum themes and exhibits for early learners, including preschool children, elementary students, homeschoolers, and family audiences. Key assignments involve implementing Mommy & Me (an early childhood program for children ages three to five years) and the Homeschool Workshop (recommended for students ages 5 to 12) along with providing tours to a variety of school and adult groups. The Early Childhood Educator develops and promotes educational initiatives, outreach, web components, and gallery interactives that meet educational standards of area schools and public interest. The Early Childhood Educator will also participate in a wide range of museum activities and events, including customer service functions such as assisting in the ticket booth and gift shop.

The ideal candidate possesses a master's degree in early childhood education, museum education, art, or related field along with a minimum of three years of paid professional experience educating young children. Experience working in a museum setting is a plus. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried city government position with benefits. The starting salary range begins at $44,509. Candidates may be eligible for partial relocation expenses.
