The Columbus Museum

Director of Marketing and Public Relations


The Columbus Museum seeks a Director of Marketing and Public Relations to provide leadership in developing, managing, and conveying the Museum's identity and mission through multimedia channels. This position is responsible for overseeing the Museum's brand—including its upcoming redesign—and for messaging, and internal and external communication strategies. The Director of Marketing and Public Relations generates interest and excitement about The Columbus Museum through accurate and widespread media coverage of the Museum's work, including programs and exhibitions.

The Director of Marketing and Public Relations is an enthusiastic advocate for the Museum and serves as the leading spokesperson to the media and broader community about the Museum. The position is responsible for creating, gathering, and editing the content for publications, including the quarterly membership newsletter The Muse, and must collaborate and communicate with all departments. The Director of Marketing and Public Relations leads the online and traditional media strategies (messaging, implementation, and analysis).

The position is part of the senior management team and heads a department that includes a full-time graphic designer and a part-time marketing and public relations coordinator.

Knowledge and Skills Required: Must have five or more years of experience in marketing and public relations; experience with museums or other nonprofit organizations a plus. Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills and ability to manage publications. Advanced technical skills required. Experience in developing and managing marketing and branding plans. Ability to meet multiple deadlines is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, with a capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels. Conforms to the highest professional standards in achieving results. Work is complete, accurate, on time, and cost effective.

Education: Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field.

Salary range: $65,000-$70,000
