GMUMC
Exhibitions Acquisitions Coordinator
A remote position with accessibility to Greater Atlanta area required. Contract term: appx. six months starting June 2022, ending Dec. 2022. Closing date: May 15, 2022.
The Exhibitions Acquisitions Coordinator will serve key functions in coordinating loans and lenders, planning transport, packing, and developing object documentation for a temporary exhibition to be located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This exhibit will feature contemporary Native American interpretations of their relationships with historical and ancestral homelands in the immediate Southeastern U.S. region. The exhibition will open in Fall 2023.
The host venue, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport integrates arts, historical, cultural, and other programming into the daily fabric of the airport for the benefit of passengers and employees. The Airport Art program commissions site-specific installations, hosts exhibits, and stages performances in one of the largest public art sites in the Southeastern U.S.
The exhibition is facilitated by Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, a non-profit agency whose mission includes educational and humanitarian partnerships with Native American communities that support self-determination. Since the organization is based in Atlanta, one of its initiatives, guided by Native American leadership, draws awareness to the region's significance as a homeland to numerous Indigenous cultures.
As part of this initiative, the exhibit will display examples of creative expression by contemporary descendants of Native American peoples rooted in today's Southeastern U.S. The works will reflect how their relationships with ancestral homelands and significant sites (coinciding with Greater Atlanta, Georgia, and surrounding states) are integral to their personal lives and community interface, as well as relevant to diverse audiences.
The Exhibition Acquisitions Coordinator, reporting to a Global Ministries project team and working with an Exhibition Developer and other stakeholders, will function both collaboratively and independently in establishing loan procedure, transport logistics, and inventory documentation by the end of (project phase I) in 2022.
